Billionaire, Founder, and Chairman of the Adani Group Gautam Adani on February 24 met Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who is currently on a visit to India and hinted at possible future collaborations between his conglomerate and the ride-hailing app.
The Adani Group is currently working towards a strategic partnership with ride-sharing Uber to introduce its electric passenger cars, The Economic Times reported. The aim is to bring under Adani One the Uber services that were launched in 2022. Chairman Gautam Adani, met with Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on February 24 during his India visit and made an oblique mention of the possibilities of future tie-ups between his conglomerate and the ride-hailing app.
The partnership also plans to bring the services of Uber under Adani One, which was launched in 2022.
These formed part of the discussions between Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during their Feb 24 meeting.
What we do, is we buy cars, we brand them, we put them on the network,” said Adani, who added it would take little time for the company to begin the service with Uber in India. Adani said the company recently submitted bids for tenders floated by various state governments for a total of 3,600 electric buses.
Uber intends to replace its existing fleet with electric vehicles across the globe, as it looks to transform itself into a zero-emission mobility platform before 2040.
With car manufacturers hunting for commercial applications en masse to make their electric four-wheelers financially viable, the Adani-Uber partnership could do the same for India, and, following the terms of the partnership, become one of the largest electric vehicle fleet partnerships in the world for the US company. An Uber “driver” in India is a freelancer and not an employee.
On a larger scale, the adoption of electric vehicles can also help the gig economy significantly in India. Uber, which entered India in 2013, has now completed over 3 billion trips across 125 cities. According to the company, it has helped over 8 lakh Indians earn a somewhat decent income by flying on Indian roads.
Further More, The collaboration will help expand Adani One, a platform catering to different things like flight bookings, holiday packages, airport services and it even has a section where you can book Cabs with Uber integration. The Adani Group has also pledged to invest 100 billion in India’s green energy transition over the next 10 years. It aims to be able to produce 10GW of solar manufacturing capacity by 2027. In India, Uber mainly faces competition from Ola, which is also working on EVs and preparing for an IPO.
